Privacy
Last updated October 25, 2026
Cal Teen is built to work without collecting personal information. You don't sign up, log in or give us your name, email, age, birthday, weight or location.
What happens when you check your food
- Your phone shrinks the photo and saves it as a new JPEG before sending it. This removes hidden photo data such as GPS location and camera details.
- The photo and anything you type in the note are sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes them to Anthropic's Claude AI to estimate the nutrients. The answer is sent straight back to your screen.
- We don't save your photo, your note or your result. They exist only in memory while the check runs, and are never written to a database, file storage or our logs.
Anthropic
Anthropic processes the photo and note on our behalf to produce the answer. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, data sent through its API is not used to train its models. Anthropic may keep API data for a limited time for safety and abuse monitoring, as described in Anthropic's privacy policy.
What we do keep
- Basic service logs: the time of a check, whether it worked, how long it took, any error code, which AI model was used and how many tokens it used. No photos, notes, results or IP addresses.
- Problem reports: if you send the Report a problem form, we keep what you typed so we can review it. It isn't linked to your photo, result or internet address.
- Rate-limit counters: to stop abuse, we count checks per visitor using a scrambled (one-way hashed) version of the internet address. It can't be turned back into the address, and it is deleted within 24 hours.
- On your device only: your browser remembers that you said you're 13 or older and that you closed the welcome note. Nothing else is stored, and none of it is sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Bot protection
We may use Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a real person is using the app. Turnstile runs a short, privacy-preserving check in your browser and does not use ads cookies. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
No ads, no tracking
Cal Teen has no ads, analytics, tracking pixels or social media scripts.
Children and teens (COPPA)
Cal Teen is made for teens ages 13 to 18 and their parents. It is not directed at children under 13, and we ask every visitor to confirm they are 13 or older before using the food check. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. If you're a parent and have questions, send them through the Report a problem form.
California and other states
Because we don't collect, sell or share personal information, there is nothing for us to delete or hand over. You can still contact us with any privacy request.
