About this app
Cal Teen is a free, quick guide for teens to estimate the nutrients in their food. Snap a photo of a meal and get a friendly read on its sugar, how processed it is, its possible link to acne, its long-term weight and diabetes risk if eaten often, whether it helps build muscle, and which growth nutrients it gives you.
The Grow strong guide lists foods rich in calcium, iron and protein. It's written by people, not AI.
It uses AI
The food check is done by Claude, an AI made by Anthropic. Answers come from AI, not a person. The AI looks at the photo and your note and makes a best guess, so it can be wrong about what's on your plate or how much of it there is.
It's not medical advice
Cal Teen gives general information to help you learn about food. It doesn't diagnose anything and isn't a replacement for a doctor, nurse or registered dietitian. It never counts calories or tells you to eat less. If you're concerned about your growth, acne or diabetes, check with your doctor. Please also check with your parents.
Who made it
Cal Teen is an independent community resource made for teens and families in Berkeley and beyond. Nutrient targets are approximate, based on general recommendations for ages 14 to 18 from the U.S. National Institutes of Health.
